Three groups, one gap
One in four mothers experiences a perinatal mental health problem, and most of the people who could notice early were never trained for it. We’re building for the three groups we hear from most.
Qualified therapists
Counsellors and psychotherapists in private practice who are already seeing parents, or would like to, and want a solid grounding before taking on perinatal work.
Professionals around parents
Doulas, sleep consultants, antenatal teachers, nursery staff, personal trainers, midwives and health visitors. People who see parents every week and want to know what to look for and what to do next.
Employers and organisations
HR and People teams, line managers and organisations who want their staff to feel confident supporting colleagues through pregnancy, loss and early parenthood.
Two programmes, one clinical spine
Both are developed with our practising perinatal psychotherapists and reviewed by our Clinical Lead. Both are built for real practice, not for a certificate on the wall.
Professional Intro: Noticing, responding and signposting
For doulas, sleep consultants, antenatal and postnatal practitioners, nursery and childcare staff, fitness professionals, HR teams and line managers.
- How to notice when a parent may be struggling, beyond the obvious signs
- How to raise it without overstepping your role
- What isn’t yours to hold, and how to be clear about that
- Where to send someone, including when it can’t wait
Launching autumn 2026. Certificate of attendance with stated CPD hours.
Foundation Programme: Working with perinatal clients
For qualified, registered counsellors and psychotherapists (BACP, UKCP or equivalent) who want to begin perinatal work in private practice.
- How the perinatal period changes the therapeutic work: biology, hormones, identity, relationships and the systems around a parent
- The presentations you’ll meet most often, and how experienced perinatal therapists approach them
- Risk, safeguarding and scope: what to hold, what to refer, and how
- Live sessions taught by practising specialists, capped at a small cohort so there’s room for discussion
Founding cohort places open this autumn. Small cohort, founding-cohort price. Certificate of attendance with stated CPD hours.
A note on what “foundation” means. Twelve to twenty hours won’t make anyone a perinatal specialist, and we won’t pretend it does. The promise is confident to start: you’ll finish knowing how to take on perinatal clients safely, where your edges are, and where to go for more. We’ll publish exactly what the programme covers and what it leaves out before places open.
Taught by the people doing the work
Practising specialists
Every session is taught by a perinatal psychotherapist who is seeing clients right now, drawing on what actually comes up in the room rather than a textbook chapter.
A route into our network
Foundation Programme graduates get priority consideration when applying to join the Mothering Minds practitioner community. It isn’t a guaranteed place, but your application is looked at ahead of the wider pool.
Built with you
We’re shaping the curriculum through interviews with our practitioners and the professionals registering on this page. Register and you’ll be asked what would make it worth your time.
From here to your first session
- Register your interestTwo minutes on a short form. Tell us your role, what you’d like to learn and how you prefer to learn it.

Tell us what you need
The form takes about two minutes. It helps us build the right thing, and it puts you first in line when places open. If you’re interested in in-house training for your organisation, there’s an option for that too and one of the team will follow up directly.

What we’ll ask
- Your name and email
- Your role, and professional body or registration if you have one
- Which programme or topics interest you
- How you’d like to learn: live, on demand, or in-house for your team
No payment details, no commitment. Registering your interest doesn’t reserve a place.
Things people ask
Does this count towards my CPD?
You’ll receive a certificate of attendance stating the CPD hours completed. Most professional bodies, including BACP, ask members to record self-selected CPD hours each year rather than pre-approving individual courses, so our training can be logged in the usual way. We don’t currently hold a third-party CPD accreditation and won’t claim one until we do.
I’m a therapist but not registered with BACP or UKCP. Can I join the Foundation Programme?
The Foundation Programme is for qualified therapists practising under a recognised professional body. If you’re registered elsewhere, tell us on the form and we’ll let you know whether it’s a fit.
I’m a trainee therapist. Which programme is for me?
Register your interest and say you’re in training. We’ll let you know how the Foundation Programme applies to trainees once the curriculum is finalised, and the intro module is open to everyone.
How much will it cost?
We’ll confirm pricing when places open. The founding cohort will be offered at a reduced price in return for feedback that shapes the final programme. Registering your interest now doesn’t commit you to anything.
Can you train our whole team?
Yes. Select the in-house training option on the form and one of the team will be in touch to talk about what your organisation needs. We also offer perinatal mental health support for employees through our employer partnerships.
Will the Foundation Programme make me a perinatal specialist?
No, and we’d be wary of any 12–20 hour course that says it will. It’s designed to get you confident to start, with a clear sense of scope and where to deepen your practice next. Ongoing supervision and further training remain part of the picture.
Be first to know
Founding cohort places are limited and will go to the people on this list first. Register your interest and we’ll take it from there.
